Assessor

is a local government official, qualified by New York State Office of Real Property Services. The Assessor maintains the municipality’s assessment role, which contains a physical description and value calculation of every parcel. The value is utilized as a component in the tax bill calculations along with local, county, state and school district tax rates. The property inventory is available for inspection by appointment before the filing of tentative assessment role.

Property Tax Relief Eligibility Letters

As New York State issues property tax relief credit checks, if additional information is needed to determine eligibility, a letter will be sent to the property owner. The letter asks the property owner to register for the credit using the Property Tax Relief Registration application. Letter recipients are asked not to contact their assessor; if you have questions, please call (518) 453-8146.

The Assessor also approves and keeps track of property tax exemptions. Among the most common are:

  • Senior Citizen Exemption
  • School Tax Relief (STAR)
  • Veterans Exemption
  • Agricultural Exemption
  • Business Exemption

  • March 1st – Deadline for filing Exemptions
  • March 1st – Taxable Status Date
  • May 1st – Tenative Roll filed with Town Clerk
  • July 1st – Final Assessment Roll filed
